Three Ways to Please a Bibliophile

19/8/2011 | Cool Design | Will | 4 Comments

In the battle between books and screens the printed word has been on increasingly slippery ground recently.

Yet books still hold a special place in the heart of many, something that is evident in the enthusiasm that many people treat books with. The sensation that books are more important than a simple collection of wood pulp and ink is something that most of us have shared. Though this isn’t something that transfers to all written work, people hardly ever get weird about old newspapers (or at least when they do it’s considered to be odder than people being weird about books). The idea that books are alive is a common theme, and is something that is hard to disprove if you’ve ever tried to throw a book away. Little wonder then that even though peoples lives are full of screens and gizmo’s they still want them to look like the classic book. Have a look at these three ways to turn your favourite gizmo into a tribute to Caxton:

BookBook for iPhone

Not only does BookBook make your iPhone look like a antique book it also acts as wallet, helpfully reducing the number of items you need to carry around. What could be better?

The Real Notebook

Well how about a notebook that behaves like a real book. Designed by Kim Min Seok this laptop is designed so that you can flip through pages just like you would when trying to find your place in your favourite book. Could it be more like a book?

The Future of Books

Yes, Kyle Bean has gone one better, turning a book into a laptop. It’s not fully functional but with a starting cost of $1.50 that shouldn’t be too much of a problem. If we’ve learned anything from Apple its that form can be more important than function.

If you need something designed, for either print or digital, then why not submit a brief on the Creative Services Exchange.

Well I must agree with the fact that The idea that books are alive is a common theme, and is something that is hard to disprove if you’ve ever tried to throw a book away…Thanks

Whoa I WANT THAT TOME! It looks a lot like an ancient pocket dictionary, or an old novellette. It would be like a time capsule to listen to mp3s of the classics with that jacket on your gadget.
